Investments and M&A in gaming and gametech have been on a high since 2020. Year-to-date, games industry investments are more than two-and-a-half times higher than they were at this point in 2020. More than 844 deals were announced and closed in this period, as lockdowns confirmed that gaming was not only very much alive but thriving through the pandemic. Kevin Chou of Kabam recently spoke of “massive levels of investment coming into the game industry”, claiming that it’s a great time to be an entrepreneur, publisher, or gaming partner.   Innovation, value creation, and disruption are rolling across gaming and spilling over into adjacent industries. Telcos – who saw 3G as synonymous with Spotify and 4G with Netflix) now see 5G and network-oriented gaming as the engine behind their next wave of consumer growth.   So, what’s in store for 2022?
